Arlington, VA. December 23, 2024 – The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) submitted a letter of recommendation on IP priorities for the Trump Transition Team emphasizing the critical role of IP in driving innovation and economic growth. The letter urges the administration to prioritize strong IP protections, appoint qualified leadership for the USPTO, and support legislation clarifying patent eligibility to reduce uncertainty and foster technological advancement. Key recommendations include addressing challenges in AI and IP rights, enhancing patent quality, combating digital piracy and counterfeiting, and harmonizing international IP standards. AIPLA highlights the economic significance of IP-intensive industries, which contribute substantially to the U.S. GDP and employment, and underscores the need for robust trade secret protection and the swift appointment of an Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC). These efforts aim to strengthen the U.S.'s position as a global leader in innovation while ensuring fair and effective IP enforcement both domestically and internationally.
