Essentiality Check | Managing Director

Dennis J. Duncan is the Managing Director of Essentiality Check.  Prior to this he was a Senior Patent Counsel at Dolby Laboratories where he manages a global patent portfolio.  Prior to joining Dolby Laboratories, Dennis was an associate with the intellectual property firm of Scully Scott Murphy & Presser.  He has also worked as a sole practitioner and in other IP boutiques.
 
Dennis has experience drafting patent applications for filing in the USPTO, EPO, and SIPO; handling complicated patent prosecution matters; and significant experience managing PCT matters, invalidation, and opinion work, as well as litigation matters.  Much of his patent experience involves managing global patent portfolios for large corporations in matters before the EPO. 
 
Dennis also recently obtained his CIPP/E (GDPR) certification and has litigated privacy issues in the Federal Courts while in private practice. 
 
Dennis has a JD form Seton Hall University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, and has completed significant coursework towards a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.  He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Master’s Degree in Political Science focusing on public policy from Rutgers University.
 
Dennis is active in AIPLA’s IP Practice Committee, Standards and Open Source Committee as well as the Corporate Practice Committee.
