Tim Meigs has practiced intellectual property law since 1993 and is currently Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at AgBiome, Inc. in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
Tim began his practice at patent law firms in Greensboro and Raleigh, NC. He then spent 8 years specializing in biotechnology patent law as an in-house attorney with various incarnations of CIBA-Geigy, Novartis, and Syngenta. Tim then joined the Washington, DC, intellectual property law firm, Sughrue Mion, where he was primarily engaged in biotechnology patent interference practice. In 2005, Tim moved back to NC and spent nearly 17 years with BD (Becton, Dickinson, and Company), where he was responsible for IP matters at BD’s corporate research unit as well as several BD businesses over the years, including BD Surgery and parts of BD Life Sciences.
Tim has been active in AIPLA for nearly his entire career, including a term on the Board of Directors from 2017-2020, is an AIPLA Fellow, and has served in leadership roles on multiple committees. He is also a former Chair of the NC Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section. In his free time, Tim is a nationally competitive masters distance runner, regularly racing distances from 5k to the marathon, and is also an aspiring sports photographer, focusing on track meets and road races.
Tim earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from East Carolina University in 1989, his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1993, and a Master of Science in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University in 2006.
