Anthony R. Prosser, Ph.D., is a Partner with Knowles Intellectual Property Strategies (KIPS) in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Prosser focuses on complex organic chemistry patent matters including drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications directed to new chemical compounds and synthetic methodology, due diligence, freedom to operate analysis, and patentability investigations. Dr. Prosser’s technical areas of expertise include organic synthesis, process chemistry, medicinal chemistry, nucleoside chemistry and drug discovery and development. Dr. Prosser has spoken and written on a wide range of topics including recent panels on the use of artificial intelligence in drug design and the conflicting application of double patenting to patent term adjustment. Dr. Prosser has published over a dozen scientific and legal articles.

Dr. Prosser attended law school at Georgia State University and graduated summa cum laude. Dr. Prosser received several best in class (CALI) awards including Patent Drafting and Prosecution; Law Practice Technology, Research Methods, and Criminal Law. Dr. Prosser’s academic work in law school included archival research of the origin of double patenting and competing in the USPTO’s regional patent drafting competition.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Prosser received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Emory University under Dr. Dennis S. Liotta, the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Chemistry and an internationally acknowledged leader in academic drug discovery. At Emory, Dr. Prosser was awarded a Woodruff Fellowship as well as an NSF Graduate Fellowship. Dr. Prosser’s graduate work focused on the development of a series of molecules that inhibit CXCR4, CCR5, and HIV Reverse Transcriptase simultaneously. Dr. Prosser’s doctoral research was featured in Chemical and Engineering News, Science Daily, A&U Magazine, and was awarded first place in the campus-wide Emory University 3-Minute Thesis Competition.
