Robert L. Stoll has more than 30 years of experience in intellectual property prosecution and a thorough understanding of both foreign and domestic intellectual property laws thanks to his prior experience with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group.

Bob retired from the USPTO as Commissioner for Patents at the end of 2011 after a distinguished 34-year government career. He was instrumental in the passage of landmark patent legislation, the America Invents Act, and lauded for his efforts to reduce patent pendency and improve patent quality. Having risen from the rank of examiner to lead the 8,000-employee organization, Bob has spent his career improving the intellectual property system. He focused on educating the public, applicants, corporations and foreign governments on the critical role intellectual property has in economic growth and job creation and stressed the importance of a comprehensive understanding of the complex intellectual property laws to best use the system to protect an invention.
