Saffer, Judith

Former AIPLA President

Judith M. Saffer graduated from New York University School of Law in 1967 and Phi Beta Kappa from Washington Square College of New York University.  She served as Assistant General Counsel for Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), her duties included supervising staff attorneys in the Legal Department, coordinating outside counsel throughout the United States, and managing numerous copyright infringement suits each year on behalf of composers and publishers of music.  She was also actively involved in matters relating to the distribution of royalties and legislation affecting copyright issues.  Prior to joining BMI, Mrs. Saffer held a series of senior legal positions at ASCAP.

Mrs. Saffer served as the President of AIPPI-US (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property).  She also served as President of the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (AIPLA).  Mrs. Saffer is a past President of the Copyright Society of the United States.  In addition, she has been the Secretary and a member of the Governing Council of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the American Bar Association. Mrs. Saffer was a member of the Board of Directors and Secretary of Symphony Space, a center for the performing arts in New York City.  Mrs. Saffer also served on a number of other boards and is active in various bar associations.  She is a member of the advisory council on Intellectual Property of the Franklin Pierce Law Center.
