Janice Ta focuses her practice on patent, trade secret, trademark, and complex commercial litigation. She represents clients in a range of industries, including computer software and hardware, wireless broadband, telecommunications, semiconductors, light-emitting diodes (LEDS), and biotechnology, helping them protect and maximize the value of their intellectual property portfolios.

Janice’s litigation practice includes actions in U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), state court, arbitration, and mediation tribunals. She also represents clients in briefing appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Prior to her law career, Janice was a product manager and user interface designer at Plaxo, Inc., managing the development of a variety of social networking products from conception to launch. Her legal career is informed by her knowledge of the product development cycle and the business needs of growing technology companies.

Janice regularly speaks and writes extensively on IP issues, particularly on recent patent law development. She also has published and written on the Defend Trade Secrets Act and on Section 101 patent-eligibility jurisprudence following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Alice v. CLS Bank.

Janice contributes time to her community in a variety of ways, most recently serving as an executive committee member of the Yale Law School Association and as a board member of Ballet Austin. In 2018 and 2019, Janice was recognized as a Texas Rising Star in IP litigation by Super Lawyers, an accolade awarded to only the top 2.5% of Texas lawyers age 40 or younger.
